Common Questions

Do I need an enterprise license?

Most teams do not. The Team Edition includes channels, threads, DMs, file sharing, integrations, and mobile/desktop apps. You only need enterprise if you require SSO, eDiscovery, or cluster mode.

Is my data really mine?

Yes. Mattermost runs on your Ecomposable platform in your siloed environment. The database is yours. You can export everything anytime. We do not access your conversations.

Can I upgrade to enterprise later?

Yes. Start with the Team Edition. If you later need enterprise features, you can purchase a license from Mattermost and we will help you configure it.

What happens if Mattermost shuts down?

Your self-hosted instance keeps working. It is your software, your data. You are not dependent on their hosted service. That is the power of self-hosted open source.
